France

What can I expect from France?

France is one of the most romantic places to visit. Most people visit Paris first, the city of love. I think Paris is a city you can visit over and over again and it never gets boring. I would spend a minimum of three days in Paris to do the most important things like going up the Eiffel Tower, seeing the Mona Lisa in the Louvre Museum, walking along the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe and stopping by a little cafe to enjoy some croissants and coffee. Of course Paris has a lot more to see, you could easily spend a whole week exploring sights. Besides that there is just so much to see that it’s probably easier to split the sightseeing into a few trips.

France has a lot of beautiful cities like Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nice, Lyon and Strasbourg, countless castles and dreamy wine regions. One of my favorite regions is Normandy in the north of the country. Here you will find the cutest little towns with half-timbered houses, cobble stoned streets and harbors with sailing boats. When I visited Honfleur in Normandy I felt like walking through a movie set. It was hard to believe that this town was real. I have seen half-timbered houses a lot, probably because I’m from Germany, but these ones have something special. The harbor gives the town a special character. Here you can sit in a restaurant, watch the sailing boats come and go while children are playing on the carousel.

A fantastic day trip from here is the coastline with beaches surrounded by white-chalk cliffs in Etretat. Go for a little hike to see the cliffs, enjoy a french crepe for lunch and go for a swim in the ocean!

Another region I can highly recommend is Provence in the south of the country. Apart from the cute towns with more castles, this region is famous for its lavender fields. I am sure you already have a picture in mind! The best place to stay when visiting the lavender fields is Avignon, a small town on the rhine river. The old town of Avignon is surrounded by the city wall that was originally built in the 14th century. Outside of Avignon are beautiful wine regions and more small towns to explore. The best time to visit Provence is June and July, because that’s the time where you can see the blossoms of the lavender fields.

No matter where you go, the best way to enjoy France is to have a picnic with some fresh baguette with dip and wine!

France Travel Guides

Below you will find different blog posts about France. The best time to travel to France depends on what you want to see. I think spring and autumn are really beautiful because it isn’t as hot or cold, perfect to explore the cities. Summer is beautiful to see the lavender fields and to hang out by the beach at the coast and winter is wonderful in Paris, because there are so many Christmas decorations. If you have any questions about traveling to France, don’t hesitate to send me an email! I answer every email I get.

Useful travel tips

1
Learn some French! Not everybody speaks perfect English, so it will be a lot easier for you if you know the basic vocabulary. Especially when you want to order in a restaurant or ask for directions on the street, people will really appreciate it if you try to talk in French.
2
Try different wines No matter if you order wine in a restaurant or you buy a bottle for 3 Euro in the grocery store, the quality of wine in France is simply amazing. The best thing you can do if you love wine is to do a wine tasting. In Paris you can even do a wine & cheese tasting, which I can highly recommend!
3
Visit the local markets The local markets have organic, fresh and super tasty food that you can use to cook at home. I think one of the best ways to get to know a new culture is to try their food. On the markets you will find regional food that is typical for France.
4
Adapt to their time In France life isn’t all about rushing to the next thing and being busy. French people love to enjoy their meals and take time for that. They work to live and not the other way around. It’s built into the culture, so expect stores to close earlier than you’re used to, especially on Sundays.
